On October 27, 2024, elections will take place for deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, and local Councils of People’s Deputies.
To ensure these elections are observed in line with democratic principles, representatives from international organizations, political institutions, and media outlets from neighboring and foreign countries will visit Uzbekistan, including our region Samarkand. A seminar was held for interpreters—comprising professors, teachers, and students from Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages—who will serve as guides and interpreters for these observers.
During the seminar, SamSIFL Rector B. Kholikov, Chief Specialist of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovations’ Accreditation and Attestation Department I. Abdurasulov, and Specialist of Samarkand Regional Department of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovations I. Juliyev, among others, spoke about the important role of the media and international observers in ensuring the political event is conducted democratically and transparently. They also outlined the responsibilities of the guides and interpreters assigned to accompany the international observers.
It was noted that 58 primary and 151 reserve specialists have been selected to work as interpreters in 9 different languages. Among the 209 interpreter-guides, 155 are professors, 16 are master’s students, and 38 are talented senior undergraduate students.
