Department of the english language

The Department of English Language operates within the Faculty of English at Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages. The Head of the Department is Gulchekhra Khamrokulovna Obruyeva. The main scientific direction of the department is “Comparative Linguistics: Linguistic-Pragmatic and Cognitive Approaches.”

The scientific potential of the department is 46%. The department has 15 academic staff members. Among them are Professor G.Kh. Obruyeva, Candidate of Philological Sciences; 3 Doctors of Philosophy (PhD) in Philology; and 3 Doctors of Philosophy (PhD) in Pedagogy. In addition, 7 senior researchers are at the final stage of preparing their dissertations for defense.

In 2026, L.U. Buranova and N.M. Dushanova successfully defended their dissertations and received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pedagogical Sciences. The average age of the department’s academic staff is 38.
