SPANISH “KONTRAPUNTO” CHOIR PERFORMS AT SAMARKAND STATE INSTITUTE OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES

On April 1, 2026, Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages hosted the concert “The Music of Our Land,” performed by the “Kontrapunto” Choir of the Faculty of Education at the University of Salamanca, Spain.

The event brought together the Institute’s administration, academic staff, students, and international guests. During the opening ceremony, Rector B. Kholikov welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of cultural events in fostering students’ personal development, broadening their worldview, and promoting respect for diverse cultures.

Maria Cristina Iglesias, Director of the “Kontrapunto” Choir, expressed her gratitude for the warm hospitality and noted that it was a great honor for the choir to perform in the historic city of Samarkand.

During the concert, the choir presented a selection of traditional and contemporary musical works from different cultures. The performances impressed the audience with their artistic excellence and professionalism while promoting the values of friendship, peace, and intercultural understanding.

The event contributed to strengthening international cultural cooperation, increasing students’ interest in foreign languages, particularly Spanish, and enhancing the international profile of the Institute.

An online seminar was held at the Faculty of Roman-Germanic Languages with the participation of teachers from the “Italian Language” programme of the Department of Spanish and Italian Philology and a representative of the University of Catania (Università degli Studi di Catania), Maria Alessandra Ragusa.
During the meeting, participants discussed international cooperation, academic mobility, as well as prospects for joint educational and research projects. They shared teaching experiences and emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between higher education institutions.
The seminar was conducted in a constructive and friendly atmosphere and marked an important step toward strengthening international cooperation.

 

“Open Day” and “Career Day” events successfully held at SamSIFL
The “Open Day” and “Career Day” events were organized at a high level at Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages. Students and a teacher from Secondary School No. 29 of Bulungur district, led by school principal G.O. Nasimova, were invited to the event.
During the event, senior lecturer of the Department of Spanish and Italian Philology M.R. Khakimov organized a guided talk and campus tour for the school students. Participants were provided with detailed information about the organization of the educational process, modern teaching systems, available study programmes, and learning opportunities.
At the end of the event, all participants expressed positive impressions. The students were impressed by the institute’s conditions, modern infrastructure, and wide opportunities, and expressed their desire to pursue their future studies at this institution.

A cultural and educational event dedicated to Italian cuisine was held at the Faculty of Roman-Germanic Languages
On April 24, a cultural and educational event dedicated to Italian cuisine took place at the Faculty of Roman-Germanic Languages.
The event was initiated by students of group 2506 of the Italian Language programme under the supervision of group tutor Gulchehra Norovna Khodjieva. Participants included students of the Italian language programme, faculty professors and lecturers, as well as representatives of the dean’s office and tutors.
During the event, information was presented about Italian culinary traditions, their role in world gastronomy, the history of famous national dishes, and specific features of food culture in Italy.
Students also prepared presentations, short stage performances, and quizzes. Participants actively engaged in the programme and enriched their knowledge of Italian culture.
At the end of the event, the organizers and teachers emphasized the importance of such initiatives in increasing interest in language and culture and expressed their gratitude to all participants.
  

 

The Department of Language Teaching Methodology of the Samarkand Region National Center for Teaching Pedagogues to New Methodologies organized a seminar and master class in cooperation with Italian Andrea Gallo, associate professor of the Department of Spanish and Italian Languages ​​of the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages. The news of the educational system of foreign countries, information about their teaching experience aroused great interest among the listeners.

 

Scientific direction. Scientific direction of the chair is “Linguistics, Literature and Culture of Spanish and Italian languages”. Рrofessors and teachers have printed a number of scientific articles, handbooks and monographs.

Moral-educational works. The chair are organizing meetings with students’ parents. Events are being held at the dormitory on the basis of plans which organized by institute leaders moral-educational works. They are aware of students who are renting flats and made contracts with owners of these flats.
