Cooperation of the department
From May 4 to 8 this year, representatives of the institute — Head of the Department of Spanish and Italian Philology A. Shomakhmudova, senior lecturers S. Jalilova, A. Tkacheva, and P. Abdullayeva — participated in the international “Staff Week” held at the University of Huelva (Spain) within the framework of the Erasmus+ KA171 Staff Mobility programme.
During the week, participants attended lectures on modern pedagogical approaches in higher education, university governance sessions, seminar-trainings, experience-sharing meetings, and programmes introducing the university infrastructure. The event facilitated academic exchange with experts from various countries and laid the foundation for new cooperation partnerships.

On April 13, 2026, the international congress entitled “Universities of Central Asia and the European Union” was held at the Hilton Samarkand Regency Hotel in Samarkand. Representatives of the Department of Spanish and Italian Philology of the Faculty of Roman-Germanic Languages at Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages actively participated in the event.
The congress focused on issues related to international education, scientific cooperation, and academic exchange. Representatives of local and foreign higher educational institutions discussed modern educational technologies, innovative approaches, and the results of recent scientific research.
In addition, representatives of SamSIFL presented advanced methods used in foreign language teaching and proposed new initiatives aimed at expanding future international cooperation.
Participation in the congress became an important step toward strengthening scientific and methodological potential, exchanging professional experience, and developing new international partnerships.

NEW ERASMUS+ OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE ACADEMIC STAFF OF SAMARKAND STATE INSTITUTE OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES
New professional development opportunities have been established for the academic staff of Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between A. Shomahmudova, Head of the Department of Spanish and Italian Philology, M. Hakimov, Senior Lecturer of the Institute, who are currently on an official visit to Italy, and representatives of the University for Foreigners of Siena.
During the meeting, the participants discussed prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation, academic mobility of students and faculty members, joint research activities, and the implementation of Erasmus+ projects.
The parties also highlighted the growing interest of Italian students in language courses and summer schools organized by Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages. In response to this increasing demand, an agreement was reached to offer these educational programmes in Italian as well.
The cooperation is expected to strengthen international academic relations between the two institutions, enhance the quality of education, and create new opportunities for students and faculty members.

Teachers of Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages Participated in the International Exhibition “SOF EXPO SAMARKAND”
On April 10–11, 2026, the international exhibition “SOF EXPO SAMARKAND” was held in the Jomboy district of Samarkand. Teachers of the Department of Spanish and Italian Philology of the Faculty of Roman-Germanic Languages at Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages actively participated in the event.
During the exhibition, the department organized a special interactive stand where visitors received detailed information about studying Spanish and Italian languages, educational opportunities, and the importance of foreign languages in today’s global job market.
Teachers conducted short language lessons, interactive games, quizzes, and cultural presentations. Visitors also enjoyed creative activities related to Spanish and Italian culture, including personalized name writing in Spanish style.
The interactive approach attracted significant interest from visitors and created a lively and engaging atmosphere throughout the event.
Participation in the exhibition contributed to promoting the institute’s international activities, increasing young people’s interest in foreign language learning, and establishing connections with prospective applicants.

On November 17, 2023, an online conference was held at the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages with the participation of Andrea Gallo, a teacher at the Department of Spanish and Italian Languages and teachers at the Department of Linguistics, Communication and Applied Foreign Languages at Pyatigorsk State University. The topic of the lecture is “Culture of Italy”. The joint holding of scientific and practical conferences gives new impetus to cooperation between the two countries.


A tripartite cooperation meeting was held with the participation of the team of the department of "Spanish and Italian languages" of the institute, professors of the department of "Linguistics, communication and applied foreign languages" of Pyatigorsk State University Nataliya Khomovich and Yelena Melnikova.

It is about creating an opportunity for teachers and students to take exams from "Dele" at Pyatigorsk State University, organizing summer courses, holding scientific-practical conferences in cooperation, establishing exchange of students and professors based on mobility ideas were exchanged.

On October 12, the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages was visited by the Vice-Rector for International Affairs of the Spanish University of Cadiz, Rafael Jimenez Castaneda, and the Director of the University of the International Center for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Andres Santana Arribaslar.
A meeting was held between the Spanish guests and the rector of the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages, Fazliddin Rozikulov, with the aim of further strengthening relations and cooperation.

Also during the process, a Center for Cooperation with the Spanish University of Cadiz was created at the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages and an opening ceremony was held. After this, the parties signed an Agreement to continue cooperation.

Professor of the University of Naples East visited the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages - Valentina Marcella
Valentina Marcella is a Turkologist, researcher of the history of modern Turkey and teacher of Turkish at the Faculty of Asia, Africa and the Mediterranean at the University of Naples.
She visited the institute to meet with colleagues and students, especially from the departments of Italian and Turkic studies. In addition to discussing the programs and teaching methods of these two areas of study, these meetings were aimed at discovering possible and new strategies between the training offerings of the two universities, as well as with a view to possible future cooperation.
In addition, the visit of Professor Valentina Marcella was aimed at conducting preliminary research for a new direction like Uzbekistan.

From 07/01/23 to 10/1/2023 MAECI grant students of the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages, Aziz Abdullayev and Farida Odilbekova completed a three-month period of training in the direction of “Corso di lingua e cultura italiana” at the Institute for Foreigners of the city of Siena.


Teachers of the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages Rizaeva Z.I. and Rasulova M.M. attended the courses “Corso per docenti + Corso C2” at the Institute for Foreigners of Siena.


Rozigul Nuralieva, a 4th year student at the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages, is participating in a student exchange program. The course lasts 6 months at the Institute for Foreigners of Siena.

The Department of Spanish and Italian Languages (Italian direction) of the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages and the University for Foreigners of Siena (Italy) have signed an agreement to conduct the CILS exam to determine the level of knowledge in the Italian language (A1-C2). The opportunity to take an exam and obtain a certificate of proficiency in Italian as a foreign language is provided to both teachers and students.
