Scientific methodical activity
The scientific and methodological activities of the Department of English Language are carried out in the fields of English language teaching, comparative linguistics, linguistic pragmatics, cognitive linguistics, discourse analysis, lexical competence, country studies, and linguoculturology. Special attention is paid to the integration of modern pedagogical technologies, improvement of practical classes, development of students’ communicative competence, and strengthening of research activities.
PhD Dissertation Defenses and Academic Achievements
Research activity at the Department of English Language is steadily developing. The scientific potential of the department is 46%. The department includes academic staff members who hold Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Philological Sciences and Pedagogical Sciences.
Sohiba Ulugbekovna Rasulova, a representative of the Department of English Language, was recognized for receiving the diploma awarding the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Philological Sciences in the specialty 10.00.04 — “Language and Literature of the Peoples of Europe, America and Australia.” She was awarded a diploma and a laptop. This achievement strengthened the department’s academic results in philology and linguistics.

Tamara Baxadirovna Tagaeva, a representative of the Department of English Language, was also recognized for receiving the diploma awarding the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Philological Sciences in the specialty 10.00.04 — “Language and Literature of the Peoples of Europe, America and Australia.” She was awarded a laptop. This academic achievement reflects the department’s ongoing research growth and professional development.

In 2026, Buranova L.U., a member of the Department of English Language, successfully defended her dissertation and received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pedagogical Sciences. This academic achievement made an important contribution to strengthening the department’s scientific potential, developing English language teaching methodology, and promoting modern pedagogical approaches.
In 2026, Dushanova N.M., a member of the department, also successfully defended her dissertation and received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pedagogical Sciences. Her academic success contributed to the development of research activity at the department, the improvement of teaching-methodological work, and the strengthening of the academic environment for young researchers.
Publications
In recent years, the academic staff of the Department of English Language have prepared a number of textbooks, teaching manuals, practical modules, and monographs in the areas of English language teaching methodology, speech skill development, academic research, country studies, lexical competence, and discourse analysis.
One of the department’s important publications is the textbook “Practical Aspects of Language: Lexical Competence and Discourse Analysis”, co-authored by O.Ya. Yusupov, G.Kh. Obruyeva, and S.U. Rasulova. Published in 2025, the textbook is intended for students of the educational direction 60110900 — Foreign Language and Literature (English). It covers lexical competence, discourse analysis, communicative vocabulary, and features of written and spoken discourse.
In 2025, T.B. Tagayeva, N.A. Ibadova, Z.B. Soliyeva, Z.Z. Saliyeva, P.Sh. Begbudiyeva, L.U. Buranova, and M.U. Buranova prepared the teaching manual “Nutq ko‘nikmalari integratsiyasi”. The 210-page manual is designed for second-year students and can be used in practical English classes. It focuses on developing listening, speaking, communication confidence, fluency, and practical communicative competence. The manual was approved for publication by Order No. 161 of Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages dated 21 May 2025, registration No. 160/08.
The department’s academic staff also prepared the textbook “Country Study”, recommended for students of 60230100 — Philology and Language Teaching (English). The textbook supports the study of the history, culture, education system, social life, and national characteristics of English-speaking countries. It was recommended for publication by Order No. 351 of Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages dated 27 November 2025.
The practical module “Integrating Speech Competences: A Practical Module”, prepared by Sh.A. Rustamova, was developed for the educational direction 60111800 — Foreign Language and Literature. The module is intended for B2/B2+ second-year students and covers 60 topics. It includes tasks for vocabulary work, topic-based communication, listening, critical thinking, creativity, and communicative competence development.
The textbook “Basis of Academic Research” was deposited as an object of copyright. The certificate was issued by the Intellectual Property Center under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan and registered on 13 January 2025 under No. 008578. The authors are Ziroat Zokirovna Saliyeva, Nafisa Axmatilloyevna Ibadova, Tamara Baxodirovna Tagayeva, Zarina Botirovna Soliyeva, Lola Uktamovna Buranova, Parvina Shoxruxovna Begbudiyeva, and Madina Uktamovna Buranova.
In addition, M.U. Buranova prepared the monograph “Innovative Strategies for Teaching Reading in English at Universities”. The monograph focuses on innovative approaches, methodological strategies, and modern educational technologies for developing English reading skills in higher education institutions.
The department supports research work, international seminars, scientific-practical conferences, dissertation studies, and students’ independent research activities, contributing to the development of the institute’s scientific potential.
