Cooperation of the department
The Department of English Language pays particular attention to developing academic cooperation with foreign higher education institutions, exchanging experience, organizing scientific internships, conducting training seminars, and implementing joint projects.
From 17 to 27 February 2025, the Head of the Department G.Kh. Obruyeva, together with M.U. Buranova, Sh.A. Rustamova, and Ch.S. Asadova, made an academic visit to one of Malaysia’s leading universities — the University of Malaya. During the visit, lectures, discussions, interactive sessions with professors and academic staff, and activities aimed at strengthening academic and cultural cooperation between Uzbekistan and Malaysia were organized.

Seminar within Academic Cooperation with the University of Malaya
The Department of English Language continues to strengthen its scientific and methodological cooperation with the University of Malaya within the framework of international academic partnership. As a practical outcome of this cooperation, an international seminar on “Timeless Leadership: Values, Vision, and the Future of Global Talent” was organized on 13 December 2025 at Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages.
The seminar featured Dr. Nurul Huda Hamzah, Professor at the University of Malaya, Gulchekhra Obruyeva, Professor at Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages, and Madina Buranova, Associate Professor at Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages, as speakers. The event focused on modern leadership, value-based vision, the development of global talent, international educational experience, and future prospects for academic cooperation.
This seminar contributed to expanding the department’s international cooperation, strengthening academic dialogue with foreign scholars, and introducing students and academic staff to current trends in global education.

The department also actively develops cooperation with higher education institutions in Kazakhstan. Within the framework of the “Road Map” signed in January 2025 between Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages and E. Buketov Karaganda University, the parties discussed scientific internships, seminars, master classes, joint projects, academic mobility, and the development of double-degree educational programs.
In addition, from 12 to 15 December 2025, Acting Associate Professor, PhD Sohiba Ulugbekovna Rasulova participated in an international scientific internship at Mukhtar Auezov South Kazakhstan University. During the internship, seminars were held on international accreditation, university rankings, innovative educational technologies, quality of educational programs, and modern teaching approaches. Members of the delegation conducted 14 hours of lectures and practical classes.

International Scientific-Practical Conference
One of the important areas of the Department of English Language’s scientific and methodological activity is the organization of and participation in international scientific-practical conferences. On 9 April 2025, Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages hosted the international scientific-practical conference “Innovations in Language Teaching, Learning and Assessment.” The conference was held at the Faculty of Oriental Languages building of Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages, 43 Gagarin Street, Samarkand.
The conference brought together specialists, academic staff, researchers, and students from the USA, Canada, Turkey, Egypt, Tajikistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, and other countries. The keynote and invited speakers included Jennifer Musser, Louis Train, Dr. Giuseppe Chiaramonte, Bayram Bilir, Ahmed Mahmoud Ahmed Muhammad, Bakhtiyor Burievich Davronov, and Nadezhda Pavlovna Shirokova.
The conference addressed a wide range of issues related to innovative approaches to language learning, modern teaching methods, pedagogical innovations, assessment practices, linguistic research, digital education, artificial intelligence, gamification, and the development of communicative competence.
The conference included the following main sections:
- Innovative approaches and acquisition methods in language learning
- Language teaching methods and innovations in pedagogy
- Developments in language skills assessment and analysis
- Research and development trends in linguistics
Within the conference, workshop sessions were also organized. Jennifer Musser conducted a workshop on “Empowering Students as Autonomous Learners: Strategies for Independent Learning,” while Dr. Giuseppe Chiaramonte delivered a workshop on “A Holistic Approach to Enhancing Grading Practices.” These workshops focused on promoting learner autonomy, using digital tools, developing critical thinking, and improving fair and effective assessment practices.
This international conference contributed to strengthening the scientific capacity of the Department of English Language, expanding international cooperation, encouraging the research activity of academic staff and young researchers, and promoting advanced practices in modern language education.
